Ambergate is named after the three way toll gate built along with the turn pike roads in 1820.
The Hurt Arms, Ambergate, located on the junction of the A6 and the A610 just north of Belper, was built by the Hurt family in 1874 to replace the “Thatched House Tavern” www.thehurtarms.co.uk
The confluence of the river’s Amber and Derwent, at the rear of the The Hurt Arms forms the boundary of the very popular caravan and camping site attached to the hotel, which has a well deserved reputation for fine food and wines, coupled with a long tradition of family fun days and entertainment.
