Langar Hall in the Vale of Belvoir

Langer Hall has been described by Craig Brown of the Sunday times as "A real gem" in the Vale of Belvoir - this country house hotel is a "splendid" and "romantic" hideaway, where the food is generally "very good"; owner Imogen Skirving is a "colourful" host, and her staff "actually seem to care whether you're happy".

The hall is situated four miles south of Bingham in The Vale of Belvoir next to the church the family built at Langar.

Langar airfield was home to Bomber commands 207 Lancaster squadron but is now used by Skydive Langar (www.bpslangar.co.uk) and Langar Kart and Quad Centre. Stilton the King of cheese is produced just two miles away at www.colstonbassettdairy.com. Dickinson & Morris has been baking pork pies at Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe in Melton Mowbray since 1851 (www.porkpie.co.uk) and you may like to wash both down with a pint of award winning beer from www.belvoirbrewery.com at Old Dalby.

Flying in The Vale of Belvoir by Belvoir Castle (www.belvoircastle.com) you will often see as far as The Wash, Peterborough, Rutland Water, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham, The Derbyshire Dales and The Peak District across to the power stations up the Trent Valley to the Humber.

To visit the Castle you might like to eat drink or stay at The Manners Arms, Knipton www.bartschinns.com.
