Rutland Water Hambleton Hall 22/08/10
After an uneventful launch from the grounds of Hambleton Hall, Rutland Water,we flew slowly over the hotel, waving to the guests pool side.
Then to the waters edge in the direction of the Yacht Club.We seemed to cause a bit of a stir with some of the anglers on the largest man-made reservoir in Europe, but they quickly got back to their fishing.
Climbing to 3000 feet,we enjoyed the stunning 360 degree, surround sound smelly vision view of the local countryside.
With the reservoir behind us and RAF Cottesmore and Wittering to our left and right, we flew on towards Stamford, the finest stone town in the country, with eleven churches. We could see the marquees being readied for the Burley Horse trials, in the grounds of Burley House. In the distance was Peterborough and the Wash.
To our rear we could clearly see Corby and the radio mast at Waltham on the escarpment of the Vale of Belvoir in the Trent Valley.
After descending just clear of Stamford we landed in a grass field in Uffinghton after a memorable flight of one hour and five minutes.
